Welcome to the Michiana Paralegal Association
Michiana Paralegal Association ("MPA") was established in September 1989. As an association of dedicated professionals, MPA has matured into a strong paralegal association with members from every part of northwest Indiana and southwest Michigan, a geographic area known as "Michiana." In addition to our affiliation with the National Federation of Paralegal Associations (NFPA), we are a member of the Alliance of Indiana Paralegal Associations.
The purpose and goals of MPA is to promote the professional and business interests of persons engaging in the paralegal profession as follows:
- Promote the paralegal profession;
- Promote the continuing legal education of paralegals by providing educational seminars;
- Act as a forum for the exchange of information;
- Inform members of the latest developments in the paralegal profession;
- Promote and support professional standards;
- Communicate with the legal community and the general public;
- Participate in local and national professional issues that affect the paralegal profession.
- Engage in projects, solicitations and other activities which the board of directors may deem necessary or desirable to fund the purposes set forth above.

THOUGHTS FROM YOUR PRESIDENT
It’s hard to believe that the end of the first quarter of 2018 is fast approaching. Together, over the past year, MPA has made many changes towards progress. Our biggest change has been the development of our new website. The website has offered many great features to better serve our members allowing for better management of the association. Although we are still learning the ins and outs of the website, having MPA business documents readily available, career opportunities viewable at convenience, the ability to management of our calendar and register for events, and manage of our members both new and existing, all at the touch of a few buttons and clicks on your mouse, has been a great benefit to all of us. Making MPA progressive towards convenience as well as reduce environmental impact. These are just few of the benefits our new website has brought. As we progress, I encourage all our members to stay tuned as we enhance the website more. Soon, we will be offering advertising opportunities to various vendors in our legal community, archive MPA’s history, follow the goings-on of the paralegal profession in our community and beyond, and more.
Our upcoming members meeting, scheduled for *April 6, 2018, will be at Carmela’s Restaurant, located in the Macri’s Bakery on Niles Ave, Downtown South Bend and will have a lunch and learn theme. At this time, we welcome all our new members as well as honor our existing members. It is our members that make our association continue to exist. Therefore, it is very important to take a moment to say welcome, we are glad you're here and we value your membership. We just might have a little swag waiting for you.
Also during this lunch and learn, we will spend a little time talking about leadership. There are many ways to define leadership. Although not everyone will agree on one definition, everyone can agree that leadership plays an invaluable part in every group. MPA is no different. I take great pride in being on your board, however, it would mean nothing if we did not have you, the members. We are more than names on a list. Our members are the leaders of the paralegal profession in our community and take pride in this. I encourage all of you to continue being great leaders by striving to reach your goals, celebrating your accomplishments, embracing the support of those positive people around you, and promoting your profession through your membership with MPA. Tell your colleagues! Spread the word that you are among a group of professionals that are proud to be paralegals!
Happy Spring and can't wait to see you all April 6, 2018!
